"City Breeze,," started as a single in February 2026, before it went on to become the title track (and the name) of my five-track EP that May. But the idea behind it came before any of that. The concept is simple: what if a touring rapper felt like a pro athlete? Not in the sense of fame or money, but in the sense of showing up in a city that isn't yours, for one night, and being treated like it's your game. That's the whole song. An away game. A city you don't live in, but for a few hours, it's yours. Phoenix is actually what inspired it, and specifically, the feeling of not being from here. I'm Chicago-born; Phoenix is where I ended up, not where I started. That outsider feeling never fully goes away, even in the city I call home now. So even on my own turf, there's still a piece of that "away game" energy: showing up, making it yours anyway. That's where the basketball imagery in the verse comes from directly: "we in the skybox watchin' the Suns versus the Mavericks," "I ball like Tracy McGrady." It's not a metaphor I bolted on after the fact. It's literally the framing the whole song is built around: touring rapper, traveling athlete, same energy. The hook carries that same idea, "she love the way we ball in the city," using "ball" the way it's used on the street, not just on a court. Confidence, movement, being somewhere and making it feel like yours. Blaze Muse picked up on the mood of it early, calling it restrained, atmospheric, "hip-hop for the quiet hours," and pointing out the "movie-like quality" in the production. That tracks. This isn't a loud song. It's a song about arriving somewhere and taking it in before you do anything else.
